Mission Statement

Our aim is to prepare our students for life in the global society of the 21st century; to develop amongst them the twin goals of Global Awareness and pride in their own culture; to develop each individual’s natural abilities, whether scientific, aesthetic, sporting, technical or academic; to emphasise the highest standards of excellence in education, coupled with developing a joy and love of learning; to achieve these aims by teaching under the umbrella of East meets West.

The Curriculum

Students in the Secondary School (Grades 6 – 10) follow an internationalised version of the world-renowned National Curriculum of England developing a deeper understanding of subjects taught in the Primary School. At the same time, they will develop skills and qualifications to equip them to succeed in life and to contribute to a global society. They will become independent learners and develop leadership skills to enable them to become responsible adults.

In Grade 6, our first year of Secondary education, students will study English, Chinese, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Music, ICT, Art and PE. They will participate in the school’s Values and Extra–Curricular Activity programmes, will follow a Personal, Social and Health Education programme and will support the school’s charities. At grade 10 level, students will take the University of Cambridge’s International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations and in Grades 11 and 12 they will follow Cambridge’s Advanced Level (AL) courses or the International Baccalaureate. The combination of these internationally recognised curricular ensure easy transfer for children of mobile expatriate families who move to other world locations, while ensuring all pupils have direct access to any university worldwide.

In addition to following SUIS’ educational philosophy, in the Secondary School, we want our students to achieve their best always, enjoy learning, value themselves as individuals and as members of a global community to become confident leaders of tomorrow. We also wish to encourage and develop qualities such as ambition, courtesy, creativity, determination, enthusiasm, excellence, integrity, perseverance, unity, gratitude, and kindness.

Home/School Partnership

We believe very strongly that home and school should work in partnership effectively. Regular newsletters will be sent out, there will be parent/teacher consultation evenings and specialist curriculum presentations. We have a Parent Support Group (PSG) who meet regularly. We encourage parents to get in touch with the school, if they have any concerns.
