As the National Curriculum of England affirms, languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and learning a new language contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfillment. Following this guide and in order to give our students the chance to learn one of the most important languages in the world, SUIS Pudong started teaching Spanish as a foreign language during every school year.

The Spanish Department’s aim is to teach our students to be able to communicate in this language and also; to be able to learn about the cultural diversity of the Spanish speaking countries, make comparisons with their own culture and be able to understand the similarities and differences between cultures. Spanish is a compulsory subject for KS3 students and from August 2014 KS4 students would have the opportunity to choose Spanish as an optional subject for IGCSE.

Teachers’ objectives include: offering a variety of activities, in order to practice all the skills needed to master a language; showing authentic Spanish oral and written abilities; promoting group work; and using ICT in order to facilitate the learning, motivate and engage our students.
