With shared enthusiasm and purpose, the entire faculty of SUIS Pudong’s primary and secondary schools returned to the campus, engaging in a series of enriching and productive preparations to gear up for the upcoming challenges and opportunities.

Teachers of the secondary school division gathered on August 23rd for the division’s welcome meeting. The addition of new colleagues has enriched our extended family. During this phase, we received the new class timetable, setting the groundwork for the forthcoming educational activities. Throughout the week-long learning recharge, as the holiday euphoria subsided, our joy remained unwavering. In this week, we underwent diverse training sessions, ranging from academic subjects to professional ethics and discipline, and further extended to collaborations and discussions within subject groups, grade levels, and interdisciplinary domains. Our aim is to foster a cooperative “learning community” where each teacher can actively participate, listen, and share, thus achieving better communication and collaboration.

Under the guidance of the pastoral group, we shared the campus-specific regulations for student safety management, providing each teacher with clear behavior management principles. We also learned how to record and track student behavior on the management platform, facilitating comprehensive insights and effective communication with parents.
The lecture from the curriculum team titled “Why Secondary School Teachers Are a Form of Excellence” resonated with many teachers, leading to animated discussions. In the upcoming school year, we will emphasize cultivating students’ self-discipline and intrinsic motivation, aiding them in developing a positive and proactive value system.
Moreover, teachers have been actively engaged in front-line efforts to create an learning environment that centers on vitality and positivity.

Likewise, the primary school division is welcoming new challenges in the new semester. As the vibrant hues of summer transition into the golden promises of autumn, we eagerly embrace the new season.
The classrooms have seen a whirlwind of creativity as we prepared welcoming environments. Bright displays and organized spaces eagerly await the laughter and curiosity of our students. Safety remains paramount, and we’re implementing thoughtful measures to ensure a secure learning haven.

In our back-to-school preparations, we are not only focused on creating a cozy learning atmosphere for our students but are also committed to enriching our own professional skills, thus thoroughly preparing for the new academic year. The Level 2 training of P4C (Philosophy for Children) proceeded as planned at the SUIS Pudong campus, where two full days of brainstorming refreshed and expanded our understanding of philosophical activities. Activities like the concept continuum, SPEC concept expansion diagram, concept target, Euler’s diagram, and steps of thought were effectively implemented, imbuing our teachers with deeper insights as they explore the pathways of education.

Led by Mr. Feng Qian, all Chinese teachers completed a full day of specialized training on “Question, Think, and Analyze: Integrating Big Concepts and Units in Teaching.” Departing from the dual logic of teaching and learning, we delved into methods of integrating under the influence of overarching concepts, in addition to outlining matrix summaries. Amidst the juxtaposition with traditional teaching concepts, we successfully accomplished a renewal and advancement of our teaching philosophy.
The whole teachers at SUIS Pudong will continue to approach the new academic year with passion and collaboration. Together with our students, we will forge dreams and set sail for the future!
