On the sports field,

courage takes many forms,

from facing a challenge alone to finding strength alongside others.

At the starting signal, runners accelerated down the track, eyes fixed on the finish as cheers carried them through the final stretch. At the high jump, each approach and leap offered another chance to test their limits. Javelins traced arcs through the air, followed by the expectant eyes of their throwers. The standing long jump and overhead backward throw demanded their own combination of focus and power: a brief moment to prepare, then a fully committed effort.

Under the white marquee, the 200-metre indoor rowing races were in full swing. Students gripped the handles, drove through their legs and pulled with determination as the remaining distance counted down on the monitors. Teammates gathered close, cheering in rhythm and urging each rower through those demanding final metres.

While individual events called for personal determination, the team events brought the spirit of togetherness into sharp focus. As the tug-of-war rope tightened, students planted their feet, lowered their stance and pulled as one. Teachers sporting “SPORTS DAY” glasses joined the contest too, their competitive spirit drawing cheers from the crowd. Giant-ball games and fun relays kept the energy high, with teamwork, hurried mishaps and plenty of laughter along the way.

In the sunshine, trophies awaited their winners. Students stepped onto the podium to celebrate their achievements, while friends applauded from below. Results captured one part of the day. Equally memorable were the attempts that pushed personal limits, the determination to finish and the encouragement shared between teammates.

The day’s theme came to life through students willing to step forward, give their best and make an extra effort for one another. They left with more than results: a little more confidence in themselves and a stronger connection with their peers.

May that courage stay with them the next time they step up to the starting line.
