A full moon, glowing lanterns and a little jade rabbit: familiar images of the Mid-Autumn Festival came to life at SUIS Pudong Primary on 24 September. Through dress, games, food and crafts, the children enjoyed a day filled with festive spirit.

Dressed for the Season

Children arrived in traditional Chinese clothing or outfits inspired by autumn colours. Flowing sleeves, warm oranges and rich reds brought the season into our classrooms and corridors.

No two outfits were quite alike. As children noticed one another’s choices and offered compliments, they found a simple way to appreciate what made each person different.
Games at Break Time

During the long break, PE teachers and homeroom teachers led games with roots in Chinese tradition. The playground filled with running feet, cheers and laughter.

Taking turns, working together and trying again were all part of the fun. For many children, playing alongside friends mattered more than winning.

A Taste of Mid-Autumn

The school prepared mooncakes for the children to enjoy as a snack. A small treat became sweeter when shared with friends, bringing a taste of togetherness to the school day.

Made by Hand

Throughout the week, each grade took part in a Mid-Autumn craft activity. Grades 1 and 2 coloured festive round fans, filling them with their own ideas and colours. Grades 3 to 5 made rabbit lanterns and added lines of poetry about the moon or the festival.
The fans offered room for imagination; the lanterns called for patience as children assembled, glued and threaded each piece. Even when they began with the same materials, every finished creation was different. Looking at one another’s work gave the children new ideas and another reason to celebrate each other’s creativity.

The day ended, but its moments will stay with us: colourful outfits, laughter on the playground, handmade lanterns and the taste of mooncakes shared with friends.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all our families!

祝大家中秋快乐,阖家幸福!
