“Teacher, teacher, can we go to the STEAM lab today?”

“I’ve just added another stamp to my passport!”

At SUIS Pudong Primary School, science has become one of the most anticipated “happy times” for our Grade 1–3 students. Each lesson feels like setting off on a brand-new adventure.

Science Comes Alive in Hands-On Learning

Through the CREST science programme, accredited by the British Science Association, science is no longer confined to textbooks. Instead, questions find their answers in experiments and projects:

Grade 1 students build eye models to discover how vision works.

Grade 2 students investigate how trees “drink water.”

Grade 3 students rise to the “robotic hand challenge,” assembling their own mechanical hands out of straws and strings.

“As soon as the children hear it’s time for CREST, their eyes light up,” one teacher smiled. “They ask questions non-stop, keep experimenting, and sometimes don’t even want the class to end.”

Classroom Highlights

The magic lies in the little moments: a child pausing to think deeply, another proudly showing off a robotic hand, or the excitement of collecting another unique stamp in their passport. Science grows quietly in these everyday sparks of curiosity.

A Passport of Growth

“I love my passport the most!” one G1 student exclaimed.

Every child has their own “Science Passport.” Each completed unit adds a new stamp and record of achievement. By the end of the school year, these passports don’t just hold knowledge, they tell the story of discovery, perseverance, and pride.

Connecting to a Bigger Future

CREST is more than just a fun class; it is also an internationally recognised programme that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on ability.

For our students, it means starting early on an internationally aligned learning journey. Curiosity is transformed into capability, and the spirit of exploration becomes confidence, it is a foundation that will accompany them far into the future.

In the Children’s Words

“It’s even better than toys!”

“I’m going to try it again at home!”

Through these sincere voices, we see more than an engaging classroom. We see seeds of curiosity and a love of learning being planted deep in their hearts.

With every experiment and every stamp in their passport, our students are gaining not only knowledge but also the courage to explore. At SUIS Pudong Primary School, the seeds of science are quietly taking root, growing from today’s curiosity into tomorrow’s confidence, leading them step by step into a wider world.

SUIS Pudong STEAM Program
The CREST Science Education is a key part of the overall SUIS Pudong STEAM program where we connects science, tech, engineering, and math to the real world with hands-on research projects. The goal? To fuel curiosity and develop critical and creative thinking.

Notice the “A” in STEAM? It’s for Arts! This crucial addition reminds us that creative thinking is essential for solving tomorrow’s problems and that the STEM subjects are not separate from the Visual and Performing Arts.

In addition to CREST, this year’s SUIS Pudong STEAM program has also already encouraged over 70 students to join in the Australian Math Competition and formed a Parent Interest Committee to be directly involved with future STEAM events. Stay tuned for more!
