On the 9th and 10th of March, despite the bright sunshine and clear skies, the temperature in Dongshan, Suzhou, remained bitterly cold, plunging to freezing at night. It was under these conditions that the SUIS Pudong Lions team embarked on a challenging new journey—the YOUNG Gobi 2 Challenge, Suzhou City Race. The cold winds of Dongshan saw the gathering of four strong teams from the surrounding areas, with the SUIS Lions team split into two smaller squads, Mars and Earth, bravely facing the challenge.

This competition was not only a test of the physical and mental resilience of the Lions’ players but also an opportunity for them to demonstrate their unity and overcome adversity. With an even distribution of new and veteran players across the two squads, they leveraged their experience from last year’s competition to enhance their equipment readiness and team coordination. Guided by professional Gobi friend mentors arranged by the organising committee, and grouped according to their physical fitness, they not only showcased their rigorous training results over a 26-kilometre mountain trail but also built valuable confidence and experience for the upcoming greater challenge—the Gobi race itself.

Particularly noteworthy were three G3 newcomers, whose steady pace and remarkable performance stood out. Richard, a G4 student, took on a significant role, carrying the school flag and demonstrating the SUIS Lions’ resilience spirit through action.

As the official Gobi race draws near, we look forward to every player continuing their training, actively participating in group practice, striving to surpass themselves on the field, and pursuing excellence. Remember, the future you will surely be grateful for the effort and dedication you show today.
