The Ethnic Musical Instruments of the Oriental National Instrument Museum have been on display in our SUIS Pudong Kangqiao Campus for just over a week. During this time, we have seen students walking in the corridor of Block B. Some reading about the instruments, and some discussing and observing the instruments with their friends.

This week, in order to arouse students’ interest and deepen their understanding of ethnic musical instruments, Ms. Xing and Ms. Chen, the assistants of the research institute of Oriental National Instruments Museum, gave the students some wonderful talks on the theme of “Blowing Curled Leave Sounding Jade Flute” and “Marvelous Evolution of Chinese Folk Musical Instruments”.

Ms.Xing shared with the students the musical instrument culture, which really widen students’ horizon. Through a lot of knowledge related to music in life, students were taught that ethnic musical instruments not only have the function of performing music, but also have the function and connotation of daily life.

Ms. Chen presented the ethnic minorities musical instruments and invited students to play them. The students were really excited when the instrument made a wonderful sound in their hands. The atmosphere was active and lively and the students’ imagination was rich. They learned knowledge and gained fun in the interaction.

During the guided tour in the afternoon, each class followed the teacher to visit the musical instruments in groups. Listening to the teacher’s explanation of the characteristics and history of each musical instrument, the students were fascinated and asked questions to know more. It was evident that they were deeply attracted by these unique and precious musical instruments…

“Visual Yoga — Melody under the Nib” has been launched in the art class. Let’s look forward to how the students will describe the beautiful music they hear on the drawing paper.
