Dear Parents,

As I am sure you know from last week’s blood soaked school uniforms (!) we celebrated Halloween. This was no ordinary Halloween though…Student Voice leader Yasya Lesniak (7GL) and her team Cata Vazquez (7SF) and Suri Tang (7GL) led a charity event for ‘Shanghai Healing Home’. We also thank our A level students, Karen Chiwandamira and Alif Diankusuma, for supporting the younger students.

The charity raises money for students with disabilities and helps to pay for the children’s operations and medical support. Our students raised over 1300 rmb and the team will visit the home in the next few weeks to see for themselves the fanstatsic work done at the home and to meet some of the children. Thank you to all of those students and staff who got involved by dressing up and donating.

The Humanities Department led a Halloween history themed assembly which explored the ghoulish grave robbers of Burke and Hare to Shanghai’s own stories of Dragons under the Yan’an Road. We would like to make a special mention to Mr MacDonald and the Student Voice Leaders who played an array of characters!

We commend Yasya for leading such a thoughtful project and for giving our secondary students (and me – see below pictured with Yasya!) a chance to dress up.

The Student Voice has been very active – watch out for our next event in support of Cancer awareness.

If you or someone you know has any interesting projects happening around Shanghai or further afield do get in touch!

Each week we will include a ‘focus’ to introduce you to our school community, this week our focus is PE:

Sean Dube (IG1PT) writes, “Physical Education is not just a subject taught in school. It goes far far beyond just learning different sports. Agility, strength, willpower, and winning mentality are just a few of many outcomes of PE. It has honestly changed my life. I have learnt not only how to  to keep myself at my physical peak, but that it is my will power alone that will make me better than I was before. As basketball legend Michael Jordan once said “I can accept failure, but I can’t except not trying.”

We wish you a well-deserved mid-term holiday on Friday 10 November 2017. School will re-open on Monday 13 November at the normal time.

Best wishes,
