Dear Parents,
We have had a very successful action-packed start to the academic year. We will also have a very busy start after the Golden Week; with the Grade 6 off to the Shangahi Rolex Masters on Monday 9th October and our Cross Stream Sports Day taking place on Tuesday 10th. So do please make sure that your son and daughters rest and recharge their batteries in readiness for our return.
University News
Our A Level students are currently embarking on the university process with the students applying for Canada and America, the UK, New Zealand and Holland. The students are putting together personal statements and application essays, revising for SATS and trying to decide which university is the best fit for them.
But they are not the only ones thinking about university. This week our college counseller Mr MacDonald ran workshops for the IG2 students to get them thinking about their futures.
Mr MacDonald spoke to the students about the process, and how important it is at this point to reflect on achievements and extra curricular activities undertaken and perhaps think about extending these. He also showed the students some ‘before’ and ’after’ photos of his own experience at Cambridge University (UK) to illustrate the point that this is time of independence time in the students’ lives – they need to look after themselves i.e. cooking, cleaning, being motivated to study. Most importantly, they need to figure out who they are in life and what they want to be.
Mr MacDonald and Ms Weeden were very impressed with the interest shown and some very thoughtful questions. There will be an information evening before the end of semester for the IG2 parents.
