Dear Parents,

There has been quite a lot of information to parents regarding CCAs, music auditions, Football/Basketball clubs etc. last week and this week.  Please make sure you read the content carefully so that your child is given the choices they request.  This should all settle down very soon as the routines for this academic year are put into place.

Story Writing Competition (Closely linked to Book Week 16-20 October)

We had our first Story Writing Competition last year with much success and it is sure to be a hit this year too! The students loved this event and they get really excited about it. If you have any questions or comments, please let Mr Matt Terrana know.

The children will write their own stories in English or Chinese (or both). The book should include both the written story and the illustrations. They can be done individually or in partners or groups within their class. All contributing members will have their names on the front cover. All writing and illustrations are to be done by students alone. If the teachers or judges suspect that it is not the work of the students, they will not be considered.

It could be any type of story (narrative, poetry, myth, legend, sci-fi) and continuation of stories (Three Little Pigs 2: Wolves Revenge). Non-Fiction texts are also welcome.

Each class will have a winner, so that all classes are represented. Additionally, there will be one more winning story within each grade. This will help ensure that no great stories and story-writers are overlooked.

  • Important Dates

Friday 15 September – students are told in assembly about the story writing contest

Tuesday 10 October – stories are due, teachers start to select best ones within each class.

Friday 13 October – grades finalise the winners and suggest top stories for consideration to the judges
Monday 16 October – winning stories are selected

Friday 20 October – winning stories are announced in assembly (with certificates)

Shortly after Book Week, the books will be saved as a PDF file and sent to the publisher who will make them into a hardcover and softcover storybook.

For author’s Day, each story-writing winner will have their finished book displayed. Students can then go and purchase the book. After the book is purchased, students can get their book signed by the author. This event will take place in the future (possibly after New Year), since it takes time to review the finished story books.

Good luck to all our little authors.  They need to start thinking about their stories.

Student Morning Arrival at School

  • Please note that only bus drop offs will be allowed at the XueHe Road gate.
  • International stream students who do not come to school by bus, must enter the campus from the YunTai Road gate only.
  • The bus and Yuntai Road gates will open at 8:15 am to allow students on campus and students will go straight to their classrooms.
  • There will be ISP teachers on duty from 8:00am at both gates.

Student registration

In line with government policy to standardise student records at schools, SUIS Pudong is requested to ensure that all students of compulsory age of education (Grades 1-5) will be registered with the local education authority. This is common in schools all over the world but will take time for us – it will be done in phases – given the size of enrolment. To complete the process, original documents such as passports, hukou (if relevant) etc. must be submitted. However, our school admin support team will direct the process for ease of your convenience i.e. you will simply be asked to give them original documents which will be returned to you shortly afterwards. You will be given precise details of when and how this will occur in due course. We thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

University news

SUIS Pudong sent a delegation to the New York University presentation on admissions in Shanghai yesterday. It was nice to see other SUIS schools present at the event (see picture attached). This reminded us that we are part of a larger enterprise and therefore all schools are committed to further collaboration to enhance university guidance of our students.

Moreover, we now have received invitations to meet with Directors of Admissions from seven out of eight Ivy League universities – renowned as some of the best in the US and the world. This is evidence of our commitment to effective preparation of students of all ages to be admitted to the best universities in the world.

We wish you all a pleasant weekend.

Best Wishes,
